Top Gun 2 king of the box office: 16% of US audiences have seen the film several times

This is how Top Gun: Maverick is a hit over time.

Elvis is coming out in the US this weekend, but that’s fine Top Gun: Maverick which could take over the top of the American box office on Sunday, according to the latest estimates relayed by the specialized press. With $32 million in revenue, the sequel Top Gun would also be ahead Jurassic World: The World Afterwhich held the top spot for two weeks, Buzz Lightning and Black Phone, the horror film by Scott Derrickson. A sacred performance for a film which will be in its fifth week of exploitation.

New Top Gun will therefore approach 500 million dollars in the United States, and file quietly towards the billion internationally (more than 900 million currently). A long-term success that can be explained by various factors. First, everyone seems to come out delighted with the film worn by Tom Cruise. On Rotten Tomatoes, it thus displays 97% positive critical opinions from the press, and 99% from the public. Ditto on CinemaScore, which surveys viewers, where it has become the first film of 2022 to obtain the maximum score of A+.

Another astonishing figure, from Paramount and relayed by the Hollywood Reporter16% of moviegoers Top Gun: Maverick would have seen the film more than once, and 4% at least four times. This represents millions of people! If we are to believe this info, Joseph Kosinski’s film would therefore already be the subject of a cult for part of the public. A phenomenon that we usually know about superhero movies. A craze that makes Tom Cruise happy and brings a little hope to an industry plagued by gloom.

Thank you for your help on Top Gun…but not just for my movies, for all movies”, declared the star in front of the exhibitors gathered at CineEurope this week. “I want everyone to win. I see a bright future for all of us“.
