Thor 4: Gorr’s design changed to not look like Voldemort

“Unfortunately his face in the comics looks a bit like Voldemort and people might make a connection…”

It’s true that there’s like a family resemblance… Gorr the God Butcher, Marvel’s next villain, played by Christian Bale in Thor 4, sports some features similar to those of Lord Voldemort, the great villain of the Harry Potter saga. The same pale complexion, the same sharp teeth, the same snake eyes and above all, this almost absent nose…

A problematic resemblance, for director Taika Waititi, who explains in this interview with IGN that he had to designate a slightly different Gorr for his film Love & Thunderjust to avoid confusion:

“Unfortunately his face in the comics looks a bit like Voldemort’s and I figured people would automatically make that connection. So we decided to stray a bit from that original design, but still keep elements, the overall tone of the character, the fact that he has this sword. But the most important thing for us, in the end, is still his story, more than his appearance.”

The first images of Gorr, in Waititi’s film, from the trailers, revealed a less alien look, and more turned to a human form of the character.

We’ll see if it works Thor: Love & Thunderwhich will be released in cinemas on Wednesday.
