Designer Julie Plec teases the end: “What an adventure we had! It’s sad when the business turns upside down like that under your feet…”
For the first time in 14 years, there will be no series Vampire Diaries in 2023 on the small screen. The third and final spin-off, Legacies (2018-2022) is cancelled, four years after the end of The Originals (2013-2018), which already followed the dramatic conclusion of The Vampire Diaries (2009-2017).
The moment is painful for the creator Julie Plec, who took her finest pen to greet her fans and mourn the disappearance of her saga, which is not her fault: “What an adventure we had! It’s sad when the business turns upside down like that under your feet…”she says, referring to the wave of cancellations announced by CW last week, while the American channel is in the process of being acquired.
“I want to toast the cast and crew, some have been part of the family since day one of The Vampire Diaries in 2009 ! To the marriages that have happened along the way, to the children that have been born, to the friendships that we have all made, and hopefully many more stories to come.“, continues Julie Plec.
And the creator to conclude by specifying that the end of Legacies, which will be broadcast on June 16, will be a real end for the franchise. Because the CW warned the authors and producers in time. For this reason, the last episode was “carefully crafted to function like a true finale…which will include some surprises for long-time fans of Vampire Diaries… You will be amazed!”
One last thing re: Roswell and Legacies. Mark Pedowitz & his team at The CW had the class & grace to warn the shows that they might not survive, even if The CW wanted them. Because of that, the season finales of both shows were carefully crafted to also work as series finales.
