Dirty Dancing 2 has found its director and will be released in 2024

Jonathan Levine, the director of Warm Bodies or the excellent romantic comedy Seduce me if you can! will attempt to revive the Catskills.

35 years ago, it was Emile Ardolino who signed the legendary dirty dancing. The director – to whom we also owe Sister Act – died of AIDS in 1993. And today, we discover the name of his successor: Jonathan Levine will direct Dirty Dancing 2the continuation carried by Jennifer Gray and who will send Baby back to the Catskills.

Director of the excellent romantic comedy Seduce me if you can!with Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen, but also of the astonishing rom’com’ zombie Warm Bodies or drama 50/50 with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jonathan Levine has the baggage necessary not to leave this suite in a corner. Very involved in this project, he is also a producer and co-wrote the screenplay with Elizabeth Chomko.

Production will start at the end of the year and Dirty Dancing 2 is aiming for a 2024 release date in cinemas.

Little is known concretely about this “next chapter”, but Levine hinted that the sequel will include music from the original film, as well as some ’90s hip-hop, which could well be the film’s theme. Patrick Swayze, who died in 2009, could be integrated one way or another. The producers are in talks with the rights holders of the actor. No other cast member has been announced.

Let’s remember that over the years, we’ve already had a pseudo second opus, entitled Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, but which was actually a not very successful prequel (in 2004), taking place before the facts of the first. This new part will really be the direct sequel.

In 2017, we also saw a remake series of dirty dancingstarring Abigail Breslin and Nicole Scherzinger.
